project 1 : experiencing space

in the first assignment, we are required to work in a group of 3 - 4 to explore issues of spatial poetics through simple design exercises. We are required to propose a scheme of Spatial Translation in the form of semi-open architecture by using two to three modifying elements of architecture.

project 1 (a): precedent studies

task: select one precedent study for each selected modifying element, analyse how the element(s) was employed in architecture in order to create spatial poetics and experiences.

requirements:

2 x A3 Precedent Studies (1 panel for each selected modifying element) that includes diagrams, images and annotations illustrating the analysis of the selected precedent.

project 1 (b): spatial translation

task: design one design scheme of spatial translation with selected modifying elements from project 1(a)

requirements:

min. 4 x A3 for the Spatial Translation that includes floor plan(s), section(s), elevation(s), perspective images of poetic spaces for the design scheme and a design write-up.

The beginning of Studio III is like chaos for me as we only have 3 weeks to complete Project 1A & 1B which are both group projects. As we only have 12 people in our tutorial group, we can only have 3 members in each group. Even though we are clueless and blurred, I think we did a pretty good job together for Project 1.

Throughout this project, the TGC that I've gained is DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE as we were able to

generate design through conscious consideration of spatial typologies, section-plan relationship, contextual conditions

and considerations of human scale, natural light, materiality and textures.

Moreover, the TGC that I've gained from this project is LIFELONG LEARNING as we can locate, extract, synthesize and utilize

information effectively. We were also able to identify and explain different modifying elements in architecture, and how they

inform spatial use and experience.

Last but not least, the TGC that I've gained from this project is THINKING & PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS.

We were able to think critically and creatively while defining and analyzing problems to arrive at effective solutions

in this project. I am also able to demonstrate creativity, innovation, and imagination and translate these into an

architectural design solution and translate the design into construction drawings with appropriate

construction details and use established architectural drawing convention.
