ARCHITECTURE AND ENVIRONMENT
AS THIS IS A SHORT SEMESTER, WE HAVE ONLY 7 WEEKS TO COMPLETE THIS MODULE. THIS MODULE HAS ONLY ONE ASSIGNMENT WHICH REQUIRED A GROUP OF FOUR TO COMPLETE IT IN 6 WEEKS.
PROJECT(CASE STUDY):
LIGHTING & SHADING
In this assignment, we are required to identify passive design strategies for Shading and Lighting of chosen space, to analyze the effect of thermal comfort in a person and in a space relating to Shading and Lighting, to be able to criticize the design of the space in terms of thermal comfort by referring to MS1525, UBBL and GBI, and also to be able to suggest passive solutions for Shading and Lighting.

board 1 : lighting
For this board, we had analyzed the effect of thermal comfort in person and in the chosen space relating to lighting and identifies the passive design strategies on lighting. We had gathered all the data that we analyzed from the chosen space in the board. We suggested adding 6 more lights in the middle of the space to improve the overall visual comfort which also fulfil MS1525 qualifications.
board 2 : shading
For this board, we had analyzed the effect of thermal comfort in person and in the chosen space relating to shading and identifies the passive design strategies on shading. We had gathered all the data that we analyzed from the chosen space in the board. We suggested using landscape to shade east and west exposures, adding spectrally selective glazing, adding moveable louvers, and also changing the fixed glass into awning windows. By using the passive design strategies that we had proposed, we hope to maximize the potential of the building by improving the shading device and ventilation of the building.
reflection
In this assignment, I had gained a lot of knowledge regarding architecture and environment. I am also able to examine environmental factors in relation to natural or passive building design strategies used to achieve comfort levels throughout this assignment.

The first TGC that I had gained throughout this assignment is
DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE as I am able to put theories into practice.
I apply the passive design strategies that I had learned and research into the
assignment to maximize the potential of the building.

The second TGC that I had gained from this assignment is LIFELONG LEARNING
as I am able to learn independently while locate, extract, synthesize and utilize
the information effectively. I also learned how to use software such as AutoCAD and
Adobe InDesign on my own while doing this assignment.

The other TGC that I had gained throughout the assignment is
THINKING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS which helps me to define and analyze
problems to arrive at effective solutions. I am able to solve the problems that my group
faced together with my group mates.

Additionally, I would like to say thanks to my groupmates, Koh Xiaoxi, Chong Zixuan, and Yim Xinyee. We worked well together as a group and I really appreciate that. Also, I am very thankful to our lecturer, Dr. Suja, and my tutor, Dr. Siti. Both of the Drs are very helpful and patient to the students especially Dr. Siti who is always nice and always gives us compliments and helpful information/comments.
