Green Balconies

green strategies building design

the aim of the module is to analyze theories and principles of sustainable design strategies, and to critically appraise the application of chosen strategies within different cases and integrate an understanding of sustainable design strategies in the development of architectural design

project 1:comparative case studies

poster & booklet

In a group of 5-6 person, we are required to choose two case studies on the application of passive sustainable design strategies within an architectural project; one from a tropical climate region and one from another climatic region. Each group are expected to identify and compare the passive design strategies applied in both case studies, including factors of site planning, daylighting, façade design, natural ventilation and strategic landscaping and other active green design strategies.

requirements: 1 x A0 infographic poster, min. 20 pages x A4 booklet

project 2 : passive green building strategies report

In this project, we are required to develop passive and active green building strategies simultaneously with the final architectural studio project individually. We are also expected to employ all passive green building strategies by their tropical building case study done in project 1 where possible, including but not limited to site planning, daylighting, façade design, natural ventilation, strategic landscaping and other renewable energies.

requirements: Min. 15 pages A3 report

reflection

This module helps me a lot in analysing passive sustainable design strategies in relation to climate and culture and comparing their impact on space and user experience. I have also learned how to describe passive sustainable design, its green technologies and its applicable design strategies by employing appropriate sustainable strategies in architectural design.

Throughout this project, the TGC that I've gained is DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE as I were able to demonstrate

an understanding of the personal, economic, social and environmental aspects of making sustainable decisions and choices.

Furthermore, I am also able to put theories into practice and understand ethical issues in the context of the field of study.

Last but not least, the TGC that I've gained from this project is THINKING & PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS.

We were able to think critically and creatively while defining and analyzing problems to arrive at effective solutions

in this project. I am also able to apply the methods to achieve sustainability in building design and demonstrate

creativity, innovation and imagination and translate these into an architectural design solution
