project 2 : experiencing place

This project includes project 2(a) and project 2(b) alongside 4 workshops. This project required us to explore architectural response within the context of the site and programmatic requirements of a small single volume public building for a memory repository.

project 2 (a): genius loci

For project 2A, we are required to complete 5 tasks where tasks 1,2 and 3 will be a group task and tasks 4 and 5 will be individual tasks. In the group task, we are required to do the historical research, site conditions & data collections of macro and microsites, and site analysis of the sites.

task 1,2 and 3(group)

requirements:

5 to 10 minutes video documenting the identified/ selected ‘theme’ with verbal narration, 1 x A0 axonometric projection drawing. 12 x A3 set of site analysis diagrams of both the MACRO and MICRO sites

project 2b : memory repository

For project 2B, we are required to design a memory repository to provide a physical point of reference with visual significance that keeps alive the culture/ history/ memory/ essence of Kampung Machap Baru.

requirements:

20 - 25 x A3 design panels, 3-5 x A3 technical panels, 4 x A1 design panels, 1 x A1 technical panels, A3 e-booklet

reflection

This project took covers 80% of our Studio III life and I think I had fun in the project. Project 2A was group work in which everyone in the tutorial group is included, I think it was chaos as non of us works in such a big group of people before. But thanks to those who have great leadership for guiding our group and dividing the tasks so that we can complete the project smoothly. For Project 2B, I think I did not do well in terms of thinking processes and spatial poetic qualities. But I had fun doing the project digitally as it was our first time using digital software such as Revit and 3Ds Max. I would like to thank Ms Sze-ee, our module coordinator for this semester as I think Ms Sze-ee planned the module very well in terms of continuity. Moreover, I would also like to thank Ms Yanyee, my tutor for guiding us throughout the semester. Ms Yan is the most supportive and lovely tutor as she always gives useful comments and suggestions which helps us a lot in our designs.

Throughout this project, the TGC that I've gained is DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE as I am able to

demonstrate creativity, innovation and imagination and translate these into an architectural design solution. I am

also able to put theories into practice as the workshops provided for us is very helpful.

Moreover, the TGC that I've gained from this project is LIFELONG LEARNING as I can locate, extract, synthesize and utilize

information effectively. I am also able to document, interpret and analyze the physical conditions of the site and ‘genius loci’

of place and generate design based on the character and conditions of the site context.

Other than that, the TGC that I've gained from this project is THINKING & PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS.

I am able to think critically and creatively while defining and analyzing problems to arrive at effective solutions

in this project. I am also able to demonstrate creativity, innovation, and imagination and translate these into an

architectural design solution and translate the design into construction drawings with appropriate

construction details and use established architectural drawing convention.

Last but not least, the TGC that I've gained from this project is INTRAPERSONAL SKILLS as I am able to

manage and be self–reliant throughout the project. I am also able to communicate design through effective

visual and expressive verbal presentations to peers, tutors and architects from the industry.
